Closing of pollAt the prescribed hour for the close of poll, the Presiding officer shall declare the poll closed and no more person shall be admitted into the Polling unit and only those already inside the polling unit shall be allowed to vote.
This section requires the Presiding officer to announce the close of voting after every voter on the line has voted. In practice, a security personnel is usually required to stand behind the last person on the queue to prevent any other person joining. However, everyone on the queue as at 2.00 pm shall be attended to.
Polls do not open at the same time in Nigeria often due to logistics issues. Similarly, voting does not end at the same time for all PUs and can extend for long hours depending on the case.
